Weddings, Proms and RHS Harlow Carr Flower Show

It’s been a busy couple of weeks, with the first being so full we missed our weekly blog for the first time this year – shocker! Well we’re back now and look forward to telling you all about it.

The highlight has been a family wedding in Milton Keynes. It was a beautiful church ceremony followed by a reception in a country hotel. The food was fantastic – we couldn’t get enough of the mini fish and chip canapés.   This week Spa Sweethearts WI held a summer posie workshop with Jo Banks, who is part of the slow flower movement, growing cut flowers in her own garden. She bought bucket-loads of gorgeous British flowers, allowing us to get creative.  This little posie was a perfect addition to the guest room for our weekend visitors.

The floral theme continued with a trip to the RHS Harlow Carr Flower Show.  The gardens were bursting with life, and although there were plenty of visitors it never felt crowded.

You can’t have failed to notice that this weekend was also our Queen’s birthday weekend.

As there were no street parties to attend in the area  we did the next best thing and went for a patriotic night out instead. Harrogate Symphony Orchestera were playing a special Proms concert at the Royal Hall so we went along with some friends.

We treated ourself to the pre-theatre menu at the Royal Baths Chinese Restaurant opposite first. It was such good value and a stunning setting.  The concert afterwards was brilliant. They played all the Proms favourites, there was flag waving, bunting and the National Anthem – a very British evening indeed!  The week ended on a high with Sunday lunch at The Pine Martin. Breaking with tradition I spurned the roast in favour of the wagyu burger with crisp onions, sweet potato fries and lots of oozing melted cheese.
