GS Loves: Bed Races and Brazilian BBQs

Last weekend saw our inaugural visit to the Great Knaresbrough Bed Race. This wonderfully English event sees teams stage a fancy dress pageant through the pretty market town, before competing in a 2.4 miles race which ends with a swim through the River Nidd.  Oh, and this is all whilst pushing a bed frame, complete with a brave helmeted rider!

First we watched the parade, with racers and beds all decked out for this year’s theme of children’s books and TV shows…

Wacky races

Then we headed to the riverside to watch the racing action…

…before cooling down with a Yummy Yorkshire ice cream (Yorkshire brack & jam flavour is pretty tasty)!

Feeling weary after a hard day’s spectating we headed over to a friends to watch the first England game of the World Cup. Now you may know we are not the biggest football fans, however our hosts knew just how to tempt us and had promised a Brazilian BBQ.

What does a Brazilian BBQ entail we hear you ask? Well, it starts with a large jug of Brazilian lemonade – not actually lemonade at all, this version contains limes and condensed milk, delicious!

Then onto the main event of Brazillian cob salad, sweet potato and black bean salad, pulled pork and churrasquinhos

…before a finale of fresh pineapple with mint syrup and chilli

After all of that no one minded if England lost (at least we didn’t!)

The next day we just managed to squeeze in a bit of afternoon tea before our greedy weekend came to a close.

The event was hosted by our lovely local WI committee members from the Spa Sweethearts, and so inevitably it featured amazing food, including an award winning jam and homemade elderflower cordial.
