We all know January can be a bit blah, but we were good scouts and came prepared, by booking up lots of lovely activities to keep us busy. One of these was a trip to the Palace Theatre in Manchester to see Shrek the Musical.
The musical has previously toured the UK and Ireland but we missed the boat. Thankfully it’s now back and going on a massive tour of the whole country, which began in Edinburgh in December and then came to Manchester, heading all around the UK after that. Even if you’ve never seen the films you will absolutely love Shrek, it’s impossible not to! And if you have seen the films then ever better, this one includes all your favourite characters from the different films while following the fairytale love story of the first film.
My favourite character (apart from the obvious Princess Fiona) has to be Lord Farquaad. The actor cleverly adopts the lord’s short stature by carrying out the entire performance on his knees, to impressive and hilarious effect. His witty lines had me in stitches from the start. But it’s not just funny, the show is incredibly slick and the singing, dancing, music, costumes and acting is some of the best I’ve seen at the theatre.
This uplifting show was the perfect January antidote and I wish it was its own film so I could watch it all over again. It’s in Manchester until Sunday 28th January then tours the UK. Have a look at the website for more information and tour dates.
