Limit production "new normal"
Rumors about the suspension and production of steel companies during the World Expo were started in Tangshan as early as last summer and were rumored by the media several times.
On March 15, the "Program" was officially announced. It shows that the air quality guarantee is divided into five periods, the time spans the spring, summer and autumn seasons, almost every month.
The reason is divided into five periods, which are actually the six major activities to be held in Tangshan this year, namely: World Expo, China-Central and Eastern European Countries Local Leaders Meeting, China·Hebei International Economic and Trade Fair, Tangshan Earthquake 40th Anniversary Commemorative events, the Golden Rooster and Hundred Flowers Awards Ceremony and the China-Latin America Entrepreneur Summit.
During these key control periods, Tangshan City will adopt mandatory emission reduction measures. Enterprises that fail to meet the standards for emission reduction will stop emitting pollutants, and steel companies that can achieve stable compliance will also reduce emissions by more than 50%.
In the annex to the “Program”, there is a list of enterprises with limited production during the key control period during the “six major activities”, of which 371 are steel enterprises, accounting for 37.6% of the total number of enterprises with limited production. As the construction site starts after the holiday, the demand for steel products rises. In addition to steel price fluctuations, limited production has also led to an increase in iron ore prices. Data show that on March 7, iron ore prices soared nearly 20%, the largest single-day gain in history. Some analysts said that the reason is that Tangshan Shiyuan will limit production, and steel companies should increase production before they stop production, causing them to scramble to buy iron ore, thus pushing up the price of iron ore.

Under the pressure of the World Expo's air quality assurance work, steel companies have announced that production will be suspended.

The security guard said that the factory was "yellow" last summer, and more than 4,000 workers were all bought out, and compensation was given according to the length of service. In his view, the increase in environmental pressure is the main reason for the suspension. Xu Xiangchun said that in fact, even if the World Expo's air quality assurance is so frequent, the steel enterprises have technical means to deal with them. The real reason for the suspension of production is still expected pessimism. China's economic growth is slowing down, economic restructuring has caused the demand for steel to fall, and the overcapacity of production capacity has made the contradiction between supply and demand very prominent.
